Minions Unite! She has Lipstick Taser!

Universal Pictures recently invited Recess to a VIP screening of it’s newest blockbuster Despicable Me 2! As a big fan of the first (IT’S SO FLUFFY!), I was excited to have the honor of seeing it before it hits theaters July 3rd.

Theater or Redbox?

despicable me 2 movie reviewWhen a friend announces seeing a new movie, my first question is, “Do I go see it or wait to rent?” So naturally when giving a review, I like to give my recommendation on this matter.

How did Despicable Me 2 fair? Theater! This is a summer must see with the kiddos. There is nothing like grabbing a big bunch of friends, loading up on extra-buttery popcorn and ditching the unbearable Las Vegas heat for a chilled, dark, comfy movie theater.

3D or Skip it?

despicable me 2 movie reviewIt’s a toss on this one. Seeing all the kids’ reactions to the minions during credits was worth it, however if you opt to skip 3D then you wont be losing out on much. All-in-all the story of a moon-thief to father and legitimate businessman works whether in 3D or not.

I felt Despicable Me 2 out-shined the original. It’s a fun sequel that delivers action (but not too violent), with amusing wit for parents and charm that kids can feel. Peppy and upbeat, my children (ages four, seven, and eleven) could each relate to the daughters. From texting to the endless rambling, not to mention the “dirty” jokes (not at all dirty but my seven-year-old boy thought so) got a hardy laugh from all of them, and myself!

Synopsis

Universal Pictures and Illumination Entertainment’s worldwide blockbuster Despicable Me entertained audiences around the globe in 2010, grossing more than $540 million and becoming the 10th-biggest animated motion picture in U.S. history.  In summer 2013, get ready for more Minion madness in Despicable Me 2.

Chris Meledandri and his acclaimed filmmaking team create an all-new comedy adventure featuring the return of (former?) super-villain Gru (Steve Carell), his adorable girls, the unpredictably hilarious Minions…and a host of new and outrageously funny characters.
