How to Remove Glitter or Gel Nail Polish at Home

While attending a Fourth of July party, I noticed how adorable my girlfriend’s nails were, decked out in deep blue glittery stars and bright red stripes. She had just got them done and with gel polish too! I thought to myself it’s going to be hard to get that off once all the fireworks have been lit. She mentioned she’d be stuck with it after the fourth, and wish there was a way to get the pesky gel nail polish off at home.

Our very own Beauty Guru Las Vegas, Christa Emmer, has come to the beauty rescue! Next time you choose to show your holiday pride via polish or some nails start to chip, you can rest assured the polish removal wont be a huge chore.

Directions

  • Cut the foil into 2″ X 2″ or 3″ X 3″ squares, large enough to cover the front and back of the nail.
  • Cut cotton into fourths or thirds, depending on the cotton size. Cut big enough to fit over the nail polish remover bottle mouth.
  • Apply nail polish remover to cotton and place it over the top of the nail. Careful not to over-soak cotton in too much nail polish remover or it will leak through the foil.
  • Wrap it with a tin foil square and repeat with each individual nail.
  • Time covered nails 5 minutes and check the progress. Time for an additional 5 minutes if the polish has yet to lift.
  • At 10 minutes remove all the foils.
  • To keep your nails looking their best, apply cuticle oil on the nail beds .
