Royal Recipes Fit For a Prince

It’s a Prince! Bring on the Royal Recipes

The world waited with anticipation when news of Princess Kate going into labor broke early yesterday.  For months royal watchers speculated if the bundle of joy would be a prince or a princess only to have that speculation come to an end yesterday afternoon.  The future monarch of the United Kingdom is a boy! To celebrate this royal occasion, Recess is putting together a royal menu fit for a prince.  Thanks to the Organized Cook, we have three British-inspired recipes that will have you saying, “Long live the cook!”

Westminster Crackers

Ingredients

  • round gourmet crackers
  • English cucumber- 1, sliced
  • Maytag blue cheese (or a blue cheese spread like Laughing Cow)
  • radishes- sliced thin

Instructions

  1. Find the prettiest blue plate you have
  2. Assemble crackers with cucumber, cheese and then radish on top
  3. Serve and enjoy!

Cottage Pie

Ingredients

  • prepared mashed potatoes- 16 oz. (2 cups)
  • ground beef- 1 lb
  • onion, white- 1 peeled and minced
  • 1 7oz. can diced carrots
  • flour- 2 tbspns
  • nutmeg- 1 tspn
  • dried parsley and oregano- 1 tspn each
  • 1 15oz. can beef broth
  • tomato paste- 2 tbspns

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees
  2. Make meat filling by browning beef and minced onion together in a skillet
  3. Add carrots, flour, nutmeg and herbs and saute for just a minute
  4. Add broth and tomato paste to mix well
  5. Transfer meat mixture into casserole baking dish
  6. Spoon potatoes and spread loosely over the top
  7. Bake until bubbly inside, 20-25 minutes

Blue-on-Blue Martini

Ingredients

  • 6 parts Bombay Sapphire Gin
  • 1 part blue curacao
  • Lemon Twist
  • Ice

Instructions

  1. Combine gin, blue curacao and ice in a martini shaker
  2. Shake well
  3. Strain into a chilled martini glass
  4. Garnish with lemon twist
