CasaBlanca Resort in Mesquite Nevada
Leaving Las Vegas
It’s the last few weeks of August and with school starting up in Las Vegas very soon, many parents are looking to squeeze in one last weekend getaway with the family. We plan a small weekend trip or staycation just before school starts again; I know it’s something my kids look forward to every year. The point is to savor the last fleeting feelings that summer holds and take time to focus on just our family time. We all know how crazy it can feel during the back-to-school rush, and the small time-out is valuable in many ways.
This year we chose to stay in Mesquite, Nevada at the CasaBlanca Resort. Just a short hour or so drive North on Interstate 15, it’s a sweet escape to a quiet Nevada town. The town holds lots of charm on it’s own and easy to explore, although we visited in order to lounge by the family-friendly pool for three days!
WHAT WE LIKE
CasaBlanca Resort in Mesquite Nevada
As I mentioned, Mesquite is a short drive just past Valley of Fire, North on I-15. We live on the northwest side of Las Vegas so our drive was just about an hour. The town of Mesquite is a quiet blip on the map with all the city amenities. Close to CasaBlanca resort is a Walmart, many small food chains and a gas station. You are not limited to purchase all your meals on property if you are working on a budget.
The location also allows for a feeling of escaping the big city. My hubs works for a high profile strip casino, so when he’s looking to relax, he likes to get away from the crowds. We found Mesquite offers the feeling of a small town with no large overbearing crowds. Not once did have to squeeze into an elevator or wait in line for an extended period of time for anything. It was a nice relaxed family atmosphere during our visit, and just what we look for on the last trip of the summer.
This family is all about relaxing on our pre-back-to-school vacation. We found the property to offer just the right blend of relaxation and entertainment for both the parents and kids.
The large waterfall pool features a child-friendly slide that can also accommodate adults. My smallest (a three-year-old) went down the slide with ease, while even the “big kids” (by that I mean adults) also took a few spins with excitement. It’s a nice feature of the resort and something my kids look forward to. The slide is open daily, weather permitting, and opened shorty after the pool each day we visited. There is a outdoor beverage and snack bar in the pool area, as well as restrooms with shower stalls. The pool hours are from 9am-9pm.
Relaxing mineral pools and spa. There are two mineral pools located at the resort’s spa. This quiet spot is for guests eighteen and older only. The spa also offers locker rooms and a quite room stocked with fruit and beverages. It’s a nice place for mom to escape and relax after a massage and dip in the mineral pools.
We traveled with a sitter, so we had the option to enjoy some of the free nightlife the resort offers. Poolside concerts and live entertainment on the casino floor made it a fun for the adults too. Drinks are very reasonably priced if you like a cocktail while you enjoy the live band.
The CasaBlanca Resort offers many promotional packages to guests and weekday specials are available. All the current specials will be listed on the CasaBlanca website. I suggest booking through the resort to take advantage of the specials. I found no advantage to booking through a third-party discount site, but it never hurts to double check. Room rates during the time we traveled varied from $40-$80 per night. Of course these change according to travel dates, so again, be sure to check the resort’s website for full pricing and details.
The location is also easy at the pump as not having to fill up twice makes the trip more affordable. On top of having stores and fast food options nearby make the out-of-pocket cost less. Our family does not eat fast food but found the cafe offered reasonable meal prices and many options for picky eaters.
The pool allowed for outside food and drinks, which makes it easy for a family on a budget to pack cost-effective lunches. We took advantage of the nearby Walmart and packed our water, lunches and healthy snacks for the pool time. This is also great for families that have children with food allergies and special needs.
