Fall Is Prime Time For Wine in Southern Nevada
So many ways to get your wine on this Fall! As we wind down the summer months, talk is focused on kids and getting them ready for back to school. Stress abounds for parents caught up in the hubbub flurry of back-to-school shopping and meet-n-greet open houses and the ever-looming PTA duties; stress also wears out the friends of these frenzied parents. But there is a beacon of relaxation on the horizon, dear parents and friends; as summer fades away, fall becomes a perfect time to get out of the house and go get your wine on! And there are a number of events scheduled, so let us count the ways in which we shall wine this fall!
The fall wine season kicks off into high gear with this duo of events put on by Rock n Roll Wine at Mandalay Bay. First up is the Bubbles and Chocolate event at Moorea Beach Club at Mandalay Bay presented by Moet & Chandon Champagne. Sip on bubbles and feast on decadent desserts prepared by Mandalay Bay’s Executive Pastry Chef, Christophe Feyt. And Collective Soul and Vertical Horizon will be rockin’ out the evening. But don’t stop there! The wine, delectable bites and tunes continue with Saturday’s Wine Amplified Festival. Fifty wineries will be represented and mouth-watering bites will be provided by Aureole, Border Grill, Mix, and Strip Steak. The musical lineup for Wine Amplified includes Lady Reiko, Josh Krajcik, Austin Brown, and chart-topper, Gavin Degraw. Less than 150 tickets remain for this spectacular weekend event, so grab yours now!
The Wine Walk, put on by New Vista, a local organization dedicated to empowering the diabled community, is back for fall! The four wine walks slated for fall kicks off Saturday, September 7th at Town Square and then heads to The Village Lake Las Vegas on Saturday, September 21st. Cost is $25 in advance and $30 at the door and guests will have the opportunity to taste up to 20 different wines while enjoying some live music. For additional information and to purchase tickets, visit the Wine Walk Website.
Art & Wine: A Perfect Pairing at Bellagio Gallery of Fine Art-September 11th, October 9th and December 11th
Wine pairs well with everything, and fine art is no exception! Held the second Wednesday of each month (except in January and November), from 5pm until 7pm, Art & Wine gives attendees the chance to surrender their senses to the myriad of ways that both wine and art can capture their imaginations and touch their emotions. “Warhol Out West” is the current exhibition showing in the Gallery. Join in on the interactive wine and art discussion with Jason Smith, Bellagio’s Director of Wine and Master Sommelier, and Tarissa Tiberti, Gallery Director, at 6pm, and see what creative avenues the evening takes you! Tickets are $30 for Gallery members and $38 for non-members. And p.s….membership to the Gallery is quite reasonable!
Grab your glass and bring out your inner foodie for on this weekend we shall feast! From sushi, to burgers to a far east-focused champagne brunch, all with some of the top chefs in the world, this weekend lineup of events has something for everyone’s palate. A few of the featured chefs include Joel Robuchon, Michael Mina, and Jean-Philippe Maury. There are 8 events scheduled during the weekend at three properties: Bellagio, Aria and MGM Grand. The Grapes and Hops Festival is back! This year the event, which benefits Par for the Cure, gives attendees a chance to sample a great selection of wines and beers as well as fabulous food from restaurants like El Segundo Sol and Mon Ami Gabi. The event takes place on Saturday, October 5th, from 5pm to 9pm in the Springs Amphitheater. Tickets are on sale now and members of the Springs Preserve receive a $5 discount on tickets.
Located just an hour drive from Las Vegas is southern Nevada’s only operating winery: Pahrump Valley Winery. Taken over in 2002 by current owners, Gretchen and Bill Loken, Pahrump Valley was renovated and brought back to life, and now not only sells the wines that long-time locals knew and enjoyed, like Symphony and the ever-popular Burgundy, but they also began bottling and selling wines from grapes grown and harvested right here in Nevada! The weekend of October 5th and 6th is Grape Stomp time at Pahrump Valley Winery, so grab a wine-loving friend or relative and sign up to stomp the grapes. Prizes are awarded at the Grape Stomp for most juice collected from a stomp, best costume and worst stompers. And if stomping isn’t your thing, never fear for there will be plenty of wine and beer tasting, music and a big wine sale.
The 2013 Las Vegas Food & Wine Festival is returning for a second year. Sample foods from restaurants such as Honey Salt, Poppy Den, Hops & Harvest and many more along with fine wines and spirits and enjoy live entertainment at Red Rock’s fabulous pool! Proceeds from this event will benefit the James Beard Foundation. Tickets are on sale now, but I hear they go quick so get yours now!
The third annual Cheers to Chocolate will be at Tivoli Village on Saturday, October 19th. In 2012, this delightful event, which benefits Easter Seals Nevada, gave attendees a chance to sample over 35 wines while also indulging in delicious chocolates. The event also included a silent auction and live music all set against the twinkling lights and cobblestone streets of Tivoli Village. This year there will be a VIP tasting from 6pm to 7pm with the main tasting taking place from 7pm to 9pm.
