Fall Food Drives in Las Vegas

The reduction in SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition and Assistance Program) benefits couldn’t come at a worse time. With the holidays looming and families whose budgets are already stretched thin, some were relying on SNAP to get them through what is suppose to be a joyous season. Fortunately, we as a community can help those who are not so fortunate by donating what we can. Local businesses and charities are doing their part by hosting various food drives benefiting non-for-profits such as Three Square and the Las Vegas Rescue Mission. If you’d like to help, Recess has a list of drives being held around the valley:

Winder Farms Annual Turkey Drive

Senior Share Program – Winder Farms President and Chief Financial Office Scott Tanner, and employee Brandon Mulvaney work hard and fast to fill special orders of healthy supplemental groceries for Three Square’s Senior Share Program on Thursday, Oct. 11. The company will launch its annual turkey drive on Nov. 1. For more information visit www.winderfarms.com.

Winder Farms often partners with Three Square

Winder Farms, a premier grocery home delivery company operating in Southern Nevada, invites customers to once again help families during the holiday season with an annual turkey drive to benefit Three Square Food Bank. From Nov. 1 – Dec. 31 customers can donate by simply clicking on “Donate a Turkey to the Food Bank” then “Add to Next delivery” during their regular online shopping. The cost of the turkey will be added to the customer’s next bill and Winder Farms will deliver the turkey to Three Square Food bank. What a great way to help struggling families this Thanksgiving!

Las Vegas Rescue Mission Annual Food Drive

The Las Vegas Rescue Mission is currently having their annual food drive which started October 1st and ends December 31st. Donations of canned food and other non-parishable food items will help thousands of families this coming holiday season and into 2014. Go to their site for a list of the drop sites which are located all over the Vegas Valley.

Capriotti’s Thanksgiving Food Drive

Capriottis

Capriotti’s Sandwich Shop is known for their Bobbie sandwich which, in my opinion, is a Thanksgiving meal on bread. So I was so happy to learn that this awesome eatery is partnering with the Las Vegas Rescue Mission to collect food donations at all Las Vegas Capriotti’s locations to provide those in need with a Thanksgiving meal. From November 4th through November 23rd, customers can drop off non-perishable food donations in specially marked bins at any Capriotti’s here in Las Vegas. Those who donate five or more items will receive a free small to medium sandwich upsize.

Euphoria Holiday Food Drive

UNLV Cares Food Pantry Fundraiser

My alma mater started the UNLV Cares Pantry in hopes of helping the UNLV community during these tough economic times. Their next fundraiser will be held at Miller’s Las Vegas Ale House located in Town Square on November 18th from 5:30 – 7:30 pm. Come for the music and awesome door prizes and give because it feels good to do so. Silent auction items will include Tom Brady’s signed jersey and signed pictures from Katy Perry.
