St. Patrick’s Day Spirit

One of the most anticipated “spirited” holidays of the year is right around the corner!  To commemorate Saint Patrick and the arrival of Christianity in Ireland, most people celebrate with a drink or two or three.  However, before you pull out your green apparel, fix up a Shamrock punch or indulge in a Green Grasshopper cocktail, make sure you’re fully prepared to conquer the infamous morning “hangover.”

The Hangover

Dehydration is the cause of that killer headache following a night of drinking. All that green beer acts as a diuretic by flushing water out of your body. That’s where electrolytes come in! Rehydrating is the key to feeling better. When water isn’t enough, consider having an all natural recovery drink to rejuvenate your immune system and/or restore your electrolytes.

The Remedy

Here are 5 all-natural drinks to help you recover from the hangover.

1.  Solixir Restore

Chicago-based Solixir is an all natural, functional drink brand that created Restore. Solixir’s Restore is aimed to help restore the body’s immune system. Restore’s effective amounts of all natural ingredients not only revive, but work to restore your immune system, making it preventative as well. These botanicals include Ginger Root, European Elderflower and European Elderberry.

2.  Vita Coco

Coconut water is an excellent re-hydrator and is one of the richest sources of electrolytes. It’s nicknamed “the fluid of life” because it has the same five electrolytes found in human blood, whereas sports drinks only have two!

3.  Peppermint Tea

Peppermint tea helps detoxify and cleanse the liver. Because the liver is the organ that filters alcohol from the body, drinkers may need to clean it back up to speed up the recovery time. Peppermint tea may not help much with a headache, but it is a digestive aid that helps to relieve tension and bloating in the stomach.

4.  Naked Juice Green Machine Smoothie

Although the last thing on your mind is another green drink, this smoothie is made of 100% juice with no added sugars. The flavorful blend is packed with 10 green turbo boosts to get that old feeling back again!

5.  Pedialyte

And last but not least, that’s right… it’s not just for children anymore. Pedialyte is a new hangover cure that many people enjoy. Pedialyte is a formula created to get rid of dehydration.  Pedialyte was originally meant to replace fluid and electrolytes lost during diarrhea and vomiting, but adults are now using it to replace electrolytes lost during heavy alcohol consumption!
