It’s hot out there, Southern Nevadans! We’ve reached triple digits and excessive heat warnings have already been issued. What! If you’re stuck at home this weekend and want to beat the heat, Recess has a great idea for you. Throw your own 50’s diner-themed milkshake party! This really great DIY party idea from the Organized Cook is fun for families, super easy to do and will definitely keep you cool (in more ways than one).
Let’s Plan the Party
Some of the items you will need for your 50’s Diner Milkshake party you may already have. For those items you don’t have, you will need to go to the store. Sorry, but it’s an excuse to go to Target, am I right?
- Ice cream (pick your favorites)
- Whipped Cream
- Maraschino Cherries
- Plastic Cups
- Milkshake Straws
Once you’ve have everything you need for the milkshakes, you will need to know how to make them. Here’s the Organized Cook’s recipe for Homemade Milkshakes.
- 4 cups of ice cream
- 2 cups milk
- whipped cream
- maraschino cherries
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Place ice cream, milk and vanilla in blender
- Blend until smooth, just 5 seconds
- Pour into cups and top with whipped cream and a cherry

Decorate your space with 50’s themed items (Target has a great and inexpensive items). If you’re brave enough, find an old pair of roller skates and a retro apron and serve! Come on, we all know you’ve been dying for an excuse to skate around the kitchen.
