Disney Planes Movie Review
High Above The World of Cars, Flies Planes
Disney’s newest action-packed film, Planes, was released to the public on Friday, August 9th 2013. I’m a huge Disney movie fan and was invited to attend a private advanced screening. I brought the youngest Recess member (and Disney super fan), my three-year-old, to test it’s “entertainment level”. How did it go? Did I visit the restrooms five thousand times in the first thirty minutes? Did I have to remove a fussy child once the popcorn ran out and the sugar wore off? Did I have to beg her to wear the 3D glasses and watch the movie till I was blue in the face? Read on and find out how it went.
Theater or Redbox?
How did Planes fare? Theater! Just one more must-see family flick this summer. Planes delivered all the fun and heartwarming feelings you expect from a Disney film. Definitely not a sequel to Cars as this movie soars on it’s own.
Taking a toddler to a 7:30pm movie is a dicey choice, however fueled on soda and sugary fruit snacks, the movie still kept my tiny terror entertained and in her seat. That’s a small victory for any parent. If a movie can keep my active toddler wearing floppy butter-smudged glasses quiet and in her seat without begging for a bathroom break every five minutes – it’s a great movie! Your mileage may vary; I got off easy!
3D or Skip it?
I say splurge on 3D this go around. I prefer seeing Disney films in 3D because the animation is done so well I forget I’m wearing the silly glasses. Disney 3D gives you not just a movie but the whole experience. You really get the feeling of zooming up and over which lends to the movies charm.
“Disney’s Planes” is an action-packed 3D animated comedy adventure featuring Dusty (voice of Dane Cook), a plane with dreams of competing as a high-flying air racer. But Dusty’s not exactly built for racing—and he happens to be afraid of heights. So he turns to a seasoned naval aviator who helps Dusty qualify to take on the defending champ of the race circuit. Dusty’s courage is put to the ultimate test as he aims to reach heights he never dreamed possible, giving a spellbound world the inspiration to soar. “Disney’s Planes” takes off in theaters on Aug. 9, 2013.
