Why Do The 20-Somethings Get All The Cool Places? Commonwealth Downtown Las Vegas
Symbols of Tony’s Hsieh’s success to revitalize Downtown Las Vegas are becoming more and more visible.
On a recent trip to Downtown, the ladies of Recess and I decided to stop in at the new hot spot, Commonwealth, to check it out. Gracing the corner of 6th & Fremont across from The Beat Coffeehouse & Records, this enchanting pub embodies everything that Downtown Las Vegas is quickly becoming. The exterior beckons you with its patio strung with lights where live music and laughing can be heard. Inside, edgy art and dramatic lighting create an energetic hip atmosphere.
After finding a spot to sit down, the girls and I admire the decor and snap some photos for our blogs… say “Instagram”! It takes all of about two minutes to realize the significant age gap between us and everyone else. “Man”, I whine, “Why do the 20-somethings get all the cool places to hang out?” The truth is that Commonwealth is a great place to relax and chat without blaring loud music, unless you’re on the roof.
Our twelve-year-old cocktail waitress appeared, “What can I get you?”
“I’ll have a White Russian?” asks Melly.
“I’m sorry, we don’t have milk,” replies the girl.
“Well, I’ll have a coffee with Baileys and Grand Marnier,” I request.
“I’m sorry, we don’t have coffee,” she apologizes again.
What do 21 year olds drink these days?
I can’t speak for the entire drink menu or wine list (if there is one), but our martinis were not bad.
I’m also not sure if they serve food because I didn’t see a menu or anyone eating. Perhaps patrons can head over to The Beat for a peanut butter & jelly with bacon and jalepenos sandwich if they get hungry. Doesn’t that sound good?
What they may lack in food or beverage choices, the Commonwealth certainly makes up for in ambiance.
