Gilcrease Orchard – Experience Fall In Las Vegas
Fresh food and fresh air is the experience at the Gilcrease Orchard. Sixty acres of agricultural land in the Las Vegas Valley offer a diverse choice of fruits and vegetables that you can select and pick yourself.- Gilcrease Orchard
For Las Vegas families looking for an authentic pumpkin patch experience, Gilcrease Orchard delivers!
Recently I struck up a conversation with an East-coast transplant asking where my family goes to find “Fall activities”. It was her first Fall in Vegas, and I think the lack of season (more like lack of color) was troubling to her. See, I grew up here and the lack of fall colors is just the norm now. When I see photo’s of beautiful oranges and bright reds lining rows of towering trees, I think, it must be nice to actually have all that “Fall“.
Well, sorry to my east-coast locals looking for the vibrant turning leaves. I bet you do really miss that! However, if you’re looking to get more of a Fall-like experience in Las Vegas, there are places in the city to get your fill.
One of my families favorite Fall activities in Las Vegas, is visiting Gilcrease Orchard. Located in the northern part of Las Vegas, the sixty-some acres are a living pick-n-pay pumpkin patch during the Fall months.
What You Need To Know
The Gilcrease Orchard is only open a handful of days a week, and as such, the weekends can become crowded. Fortunately we found our Tuesday afternoon visit not too over crowded. If you’ll be walking the orchard, make sure to grab a wagon. The more people, the less likely to snag one.
If you’ll be walking the property, be sure to take into account the weather. It was a bright, sunny, and warm day we visited and by the time we walked around, everyone was a tad bit cranky. I suggest having water for those sunny days, and if you forget there is a small food stand that sells bottles for one dollar each. Be sure to pack out what you bring in.
The roads and paths are gravel and/or dirt, so you may want to take that into account as well. When visiting places like this I pack a plastic grocery bag and an additional pair of shoes so my vehicle stays nice and new. Your kids will get dirty here!
Vehicles are allowed to drive the one-way road that circles the property. If you’ll be driving, you can park on the side and walk around as well. I usually skip this because, like I said before, I keep dusty/muddy shoes out of my car. But if this is not a concern for you, I highly suggest driving the orchard.
We actually started our visit with the amazing apple cider doughnuts. They are topped with cinnamon-cream cheese! Needless to say, they were a hit with the kids. I enjoyed one too, but purely on research basis only ;-). It will set you back two dollars for six of the mini doughnuts.
Once you’re done with all the picking fun, you’ll need to visit the cashier stand located by the entrance to weight and pay for you produce. You can also pick up additional items like apple cider, I grabbed a half gallon for four dollars. If you live close by, I have noticed quite a few families will take a bike ride through the trails, you may want to also enjoy the orchard from the seat of your bike.
