The Farm: Northwest Las Vegas Family Events
Many Las Vegas residents may not realize we have a local functioning farm you can visit on weekends. Known simply as The Farm and located in the Northwest part of the valley, visitors can purchase fresh eggs while visiting with many different farm animals.
At The Farm, you can buy many types of fresh eggs, including: chicken, duck, goose, quail and even peacock eggs. I’m not all that adventurous when it comes to food, so I have only ever bought chicken eggs…maybe one day I’ll be daring. I really like how I can get raw honey so close to my home too. Plan on paying a premium for this sweet treat, but it’s much better than the over-processed, over-sugared products you’ll find in the grocery stores. Plus you’re supporting a local farmer!
My family and I have been visiting The Farm for over three years now, and the kids really enjoy going. The Farm has grown a lot since our first visit. There was a whole new area with a hay maze and rides. It was not operating at the time of our visit, not enough volunteers working I was told.
I was charged a $3 entrance fee and the rides will set you back $5 each. Parking is along side the property in gravel, so don’t grab a car wash before heading out there. I also suggest closed-toe shoes for your visit. You can see in the picture my middle child (boy) did not take my advice and complained the entire time about rocks getting in his shoes. The farm is dusty/dirty and your kids shoes will be too so I always like to bring along a change of shoes and a bag to put the dirty shoes in, for the ride home. Also you’ll want to have quarters on hand to feed the animals from the corn/pellet dispensers.
I was told the BBQ will be running once the weather is calm, warm, and steady. I suggest the brisket and don’t forget the chocolate chip cookies. I usually have to buy double just so I can get ONE! If you’re traveling from across town, I suggest calling ahead to make sure the rides are running and if they will have BBQ. No outside food is allowed and your children must be supervised at all times. Watch those little fingers in cages, a lesson my children all had to learn the hard way!
Some times of the year you’ll have access to a larger selection of fruits and veggies. As you can see by our visit in 2010.
The Farm is located at 7222 W. Grand Teton Drive, Las Vegas, NV 89131 in the NW part of Las Vegas. Open Saturday & Sundays. 702-982-8000
